Czech Book
My book is being translated…
The first foreign translation of my book is in Czech, which is exciting for me – especially since I am called Felice Hardyová on the cover! Sadly, I won’t be able to read a proof of the book, so I trust that the editors in Prague will do a good job. Hopefully, other translations will follow in the near future.
Apart from my changed surname, they’ve also changed the strap heading from ‘Liesl Herbst’s Journey, from Vienna to Wimbledon’ to ‘Liesl Herbst’s Journey from Krnov to Wimbledon.’ It’s quite funny because Krnov is in the Czech Republic, and it’s also the place where Liesl was born – although, in her day, it was known by its German name, Jägerndorf. It’s appropriate for the Czech market to claim Liesl as one of their own. I’m quite flattered, as this puts her alongside players like Martina Navratilová, Jana Novotná, Hana Mandliková, and Ivan Lendl. The Czech book is due to be published at the end of 2024.
On another subject, the BBC interviewed me last week for their Sporting Witness programme on BBC Sounds, and the interview is provisionally scheduled to go live on June 29th.
I am giving a talk about travel writing at the Frome Festival, together with Peter. Tickets are on sale now.
Finally, I am halfway through writing a new book. It’s planned to be a sequel to The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis, so watch this space…
